Pre K 3-5 at MCPA is filled with hands on learning experiences. We are a Montessori inspired program and follow many of the practices of a traditional Montessori program. We also use some modern educational practices as we prepare students with a realistic view of modern schooling. Each day our students will experience Math, Language Arts & Reading, Science, & Social Emotional Learning activities in independent, small group & large group settings.

In our Montessori Inspired program we use the “hands-on.” approach to learning. Dr. Maria Montessori believed (and modern science has affirmed) that moving and learning are inseparable. In the prepared classroom, children work with specially designed manipulative materials that invite exploration and engage the senses in the process of learning.
All learning activities support children in choosing meaningful and challenging work at their own interest and ability level. This child-directed engagement strengthens motivation, supports attention, and encourages responsibility.

A Welcoming Space
The MCPA Early Childhood classroom feels more like a home than a school. You won’t see desks. Instead, you’ll see children happily working individually or in small groups at tables or on the floor near small mats that delineate their own space.
Specially designed learning materials are displayed on open shelves, easily accessible to the children. Classrooms also include child-sized furniture, cozy spaces for quiet reading, and reachable shelves with work available for free choice. Teachers gently guide students to help maintain the organization and cleanliness of this environment to keep it orderly and attractive, and to help your child understand how to care for materials and clean up after themselves—skills you will be happy to observe carrying over in your home.
Each day we will explore in our class learning about Math, Science, Writing, language, literacy, and more.
We will also continue our learning by going outdoors where more of our learning environment awaits!

"The environment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences"
